…..some other thing to hold up my pants.
This weekend I learned an important difference between my wife and I.
I take baby steps, she jumps in the deep end.
She asked for, and got, a Dutch Oven for Mother’s Day. She’s never used one, I haven’t used one since Reagan was in the Oval Office.
She was planning on using it for the first time (and cooking a new recipe to boot) on our Memorial Weekend camping trip.
I insisted that we try it out at home before our trip. If things go horribly wrong at home, I can have pizza delivered immediately. If we’re out in the woods, I’ve got hungry babies and a hangry wife to deal with.
This goes back when I was in Scouts as a boy. Whenever we got a new piece of equipment we tried it out at a meeting. And then we took it on a weekend camping trip.
We did learn a few lessons from our dry run in the driveway.
I’m adding leather gloves to the kit. And an entrenching tool.
But the venison stew …….

It was fabulous.
