When we bought the new house, I was happy to see that both upstairs bathrooms had new vanities. I didn’t realize then that the new fixtures were probably worse than the 50 year old units that they replaced.

The issue is the pop-up sink stopper. Pfister calls it “Push and Seal”. They should call it the “Never Drain”.
In theory it’s a great idea. Instead of pulling up a knob on the back of the faucet, which is part of a multi-part linkage, push the stopper once to close the drain and a second time to open it.
The issue is that threaded bit about half way down the stopper. The threaded bit is the connection between the stopper and drain. There are three passages through the threaded bit where all the waste has to flow.
The thing is, when you restrict the flow of waste water, you collect solids. Over time the three passages collect soap scum, toothpaste residue, and hair. Given time, this develops into a disgusting black film which further restricts the flow of water.
As the drain gets slower and slower, your sink gets nastier and nastier.
Until I replace these drains, I have resigned my self to scrubbing these stoppers every couple of weeks.
