In which we add plumbing….
First off, this is as basic a plumbing system as I can imagine.
Second, the sink, which would normally be the most expensive bit, was free. I recovered it from a foreclosed house I was cleaning out. I found one here for $60, but you still need a drain basket.
So while this seems so extra (and it is pretty unnecessary) it’s not an expensive addition.

To make the hole for the sink, place the sink upside down on the countertop and trace the outside rim. Measure from the wall of the sink to the outside of the rim and draw a smaller rectangle inside the first. Measure all four sides, my flange is wider on left & right than it is on front & back. (Actually, if you buy a sink, it usually comes with a template to cut the hole and you don’t have to deal with this upside down offset hassle.)

If you’re lucky, you have a hole saw with the same radius as the sink corners.

The “faucet” is new this year. I bought this from Amazon for $13. It’s designed to go onto a 5 gallon bottle, so I had to come up with a way to mount it on top of my countertop.

This PVC 1 1/2” – 1/2” bushing fits reasonably well inside the pump. I added a 6” x 1/2” galvanized nipple to the bushing. The steel nipple goes through a hole in the countertop to hold things in place. Neither the bushing nor the nipple are in contact with water. If we need to fill a pot that won’t fit in the sink, I’ve left an extra foot of water line so we can just lift the faucet.

In past years we just placed a 2.5 gallon disposable water jug on the counter.
The waste side of the plumbing system is just a hose from the sink into a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. About once a day I dump the gray water into a port-a-john.
The lid is critical unless you want to breed mosquitoes.
