It’s been a long time since I’ve used the smoker, but Thanksgiving next week has me dusting it off.
I purchased a new grill thermometer and tested it out on some turkey tenderloin in the oven.
I got the ThermoPro TP25 which comes with four probes and a grate clip. Bluetooth connectivity to your phone lets you remotely monitor the cook.
A few features made this unit a real standout for me. The first is the extended BT range. As much as I’d love to sit by the smoker drinking beers all day, the reality is that I don’t have 12 hours to babysit a fire. Usually when I’m smoking meat, I’m busy getting the house ready for a party. My previous two thermometers promised wireless range but never delivered.
{To be honest though, it’s more likely that failure was due to older Bluetooth tech than poor product design.}
The other feature that impressed me was the prediction till done.

The four probes are color coded – knurled aluminum rings at the business end and matching color coded jackets at the plug. That color coding carries through to the receptacles on the sides of the transmitter and the app itself.
Speaking of the receptacles, there are two on each side, which makes it tough to position the transmitter. But if they were all on one side, the transmitter would want to be backwards for some users.
The brains of this thing calculate how quickly the temperature is rising to estimate when your meat will reach the target temperature.
Now, my trial run was two turkey tenderloins, so I’m not sure how much of a test this was. The plan for turkey day is one probe in each breast and a third in one of the thighs.

I’ve got some small nits to pick with the app. If the thing is designed to support four temp probes, it sure would be nice to see all four of them on a single screen. Only two fit on the screen at a time.
And I’d also like a graph that shows all the temps over time, though I’m not sure how useful that would be in practice.

That being said, I bought the TP25 with my own money and this post is my honest opinion of it. I’d definitely buy it again, and recommend it to anyone.
