Just a couple quick thoughts that jumped into my head while grilling up some steaks tonight.
Some of you have outdoor kitchens with countertops & covered storage. Not me. I’m old school – charcoal and a Weber kettle is perfect for me.
Say hello to my little friend
I like to use the chimney to start the coals, but I don’t have a newspaper coming to the house.
No need for lighter fluid.
Luckily, if you’ve got charcoal, you’ve got a perfect solution.
The charcoal bag makes a good starter.
I don’t have good access to a shed or the garage from the back yard. I need to keep my supplies handy. I’ve got an easy waterproof storage for charcoal & grill accessories.
She don’t look like much, but she keeps everything dry.
The Rubbermaid Brute & Lid stores 2 bags of charcoal, the coal baskets, the rib racks, a few cedar planks & empty charcoal bags for use as fire starters.
55 gallons of dry storage.
Once the coals are lit & the lid goes back on the can, it becomes a reasonable work surface as well.
Hold my steaks (and beer, not pictured.)Dinner for two. So good.
With a bachelors degree in history, I turn wrenches for a living. I’m most at peace when I hear the wind in the trees or the gurgle of a brook. I’m a believer in the Renaissance Man, as epitomized by DaVinci engineer, artist, soldier, statesman. As Heinlein said, “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyse a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”
