Glamping Kitchen (Mk.2){part 2}

In which we add plumbing….

First off, this is as basic a plumbing system as I can imagine.

Second, the sink, which would normally be the most expensive bit, was free. I recovered it from a foreclosed house I was cleaning out. I found one here for $60, but you still need a drain basket.

So while this seems so extra (and it is pretty unnecessary) it’s not an expensive addition.

We bring everything, including the kitchen sink

How to pack for a camping trip.

It’s been 11 years with the yurt. We’re still improving the yurt and the rest of of campsite. Also working on getting more efficient at pitching and striking camp.

The first few years, we had to unload both vehicles into a pile and then dig through the pile to find the bits we need. We can now be fully setup and enjoying our vacation about 90 minutes after arrival.

Probably the biggest mental hurdle was learning to pack the truck in the opposite order.

RV Shopping.

The wife and I went to the RV Show in Atlantic City this year. It’s a good thing we took her minivan, as Fessick would not have fit in the garage at the convention center.

My plan was to look at as many travel trailers as possible to find out some must have features as well as figure out what we could live without. We did agree on a few things – Continue reading “RV Shopping.”

Suspension Thoughts

The factory suspension on the Excursion was a mess the day it rolled off the factory floor.

Now that the factory sized wheels and tires are installed, the four inch “lift” on Fessick looks as bad as it drives.

And it’s not just because of the simple lift kit. The lift consists of just blocks on the rear axle and drop shackles on the front. Nothing was done to correct the defects in the factory suspension.

I’ve been given a deadline

This morning we’re discussing next year’s vacation budget, and the wife tells me she wants to go to Disney in Oct 2021.

And she wants to tow the travel trailer (that we don’t yet own) and stay at Fort Wilderness.

That gives me three years to turn the Excursion into a tow monster while saving enough cash to purchase a trailer and fund a two week stay at the Magic Kingdom.

Realistically, I want to buy and be able to tow the trailer in two years so we can do some local shakedown trips.

Luckily, the Excursion left the factory with a 10,000 pound towing capacity.

Let the shopping begin!
